The island of Crete
The island of Crete offers several possibilities for visits, from beaches to archaeological sites. Or the numerous monasteries and museums. For nature lovers of course there are many hikes to do.
But first of all, here are the main facts for coming to the island of Crete. A very easy destination to access whether by plane or by ferry, the latter departing from Italy. Several ports make the crossing depending on the ferry company chosen. For Greece : Grimaldi or Superfast. The ferry leaves from the port of Ancona for Igoumenista (Greek mainland) or for Patras (Peloponnese).
The fastest is obviously via the port of Patras upon arrival. Then 2 hours of motorway to arrive in Piraeus where a ferry leaves in the evening for Crete with an arrival according to your choice in Chania or Heraklion in the morning.
Arriving in Igoumenista may require you to spend a night on the mainland before heading to Piraeus. It all depends on what time the ferry arrives. But it can be an opportunity to make some nice visits.
