Here you have some other interesting information about the island, to know for those who want to buy a house in Crete.
The island of Crete was formerly called Candia. It is the largest island in Greece. And the 5th in the Mediterranean.
To the north is the Cretan Sea and to the south the Libyan Sea.
The island was annexed to Greece in 1917.
We must not forget that Crete is a mountainous island. The 3 main mountains are the Lefká Óri (2,453 m) also called the White Mountains which can be seen from the village of Kefalas, then the massif of Mount Psiloritis (2,456 m) also called Mount Ida in the center and which can be seen from the house. It is the highest point of the island. Then the massif of Mount Dikti (2,148 m) to the east, in Lassithi. It is in one of its caves that the God of Gods: Zeus was born. The cave is one of the tourist attractions of the island, (very very touristy! Avoid in high season.)
Caves and gorges are also very numerous.
